What it means for vet practices

This page orients practice teams to publicly available CMA guidance. It is not legal advice and does not state obligations for any individual practice beyond what primary sources already say.

Vet Price Comparison is an independent UK comparison service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, operated by, or part of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) or the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

  • Implementation is phased

CMA guidance groups remedies by theme and generally gives smaller businesses (fewer than 15 first-opinion practices) longer than larger groups. Deadlines are measured from when the Order is in place.

  • Transparency package

Expect work on ownership disclosure, standard price lists, parasiticide prices, pet care plan explanations, and sharing key data with the RCVS once Find a Vet enhancements are ready.

  • Medicines and prescriptions

Practices should prepare communications that written prescriptions are available, follow RCVS-standardised materials when issued, and apply the published fee caps on the CMA timetable.

  • Not legal advice

This hub summarises publicly available CMA guidance for orientation only. Practices should read the primary GOV.UK pages and take their own professional or legal advice on compliance.
