The substantive remedies Order and related RCVS undertakings were still being finalised as of this review (statutory deadline 23 September 2026). Where later compliance dates are planned rather than in force, we say so.

RCVS price information

CMA reforms → veterinary businesses → information requirements → RCVS systems → consumer-facing information. Vet Price Comparison sits independently alongside that path: we already show practice-published prices, and we are not the RCVS Find a Vet service.

Vet Price Comparison is an independent UK comparison service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, operated by, or part of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) or the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

How the pieces connect

  1. The CMA sets remedies that require clearer practice information, including prices.
  2. Veterinary businesses must publish information and, on the CMA timetable, supply key data to the RCVS.
  3. The RCVS is expected to enhance Find a Vet to publish that information and share it with approved third parties under restrictions.
  4. Pet owners can then use RCVS tools and/or independent comparison services that lawfully use published or shared data.

  • Confirmed direction

    The CMA’s final package gives the RCVS a central role supporting remedies: monitoring compliance activities described in the report, enhancing Find a Vet, and sharing data with approved third parties under restrictions.

  • Funding (already published)

    The Funding Order and RCVS funding undertakings (published 20 August 2026) require relevant veterinary businesses to fund certain RCVS activities linked to the remedies. Levy amounts depend on business size as set out in those instruments.

  • Forthcoming functionality

    Enhanced Find a Vet readiness is indicated for June 2027 once the substantive package is in place, with businesses supplying data around September 2027. Treat consumer-facing RCVS comparison features as planned until the RCVS and CMA confirm they are live.

  • Enforcement vs monitoring

    CMA guidance states the CMA — not the RCVS — remains responsible for enforcing non-compliance with the Order, while the RCVS has monitoring and support duties set out in the remedies package.

Confirmed vs planned

Confirmed direction (final report / guidance): RCVS role in monitoring support, Find a Vet enhancement, third-party data sharing under restrictions, and standardised written-prescription materials.

Planned timing (CMA business guidance): Find a Vet readiness around June 2027; businesses supplying data around September 2027. Do not assume those consumer features are live today.
